Yiwen Yike Privacy Policy

This policy applies to Yiwen Yike (the "Yiwen Yike" app and the Yiwen Yike Studio web version).

What we collect

  • Account information: your phone number or email address, your password in encrypted form (a salted scrypt hash — we can never see the original), when you signed up and which version of the terms you accepted.
  • What you create: your requests, outlines, scripts, and the voice-overs and videos made from them.
  • Voice input: recordings are only used to turn speech into text and are deleted as soon as they are transcribed; we do not keep them.
  • Usage records: the actions we record to measure usage and charge correctly (such as creating a project, finishing a video, downloading), and the IP address and browser used to sign in (for account security).

How we use it

  • To make your videos: your requests and scripts are sent to our large-language-model, speech-recognition and speech-synthesis provider (Alibaba Cloud Model Studio) for processing, only to complete that job.
  • Payments: when you pay on our website, your card number, PayPal account and other payment details are handled directly by the payment provider (WeChat Pay, Alipay, PayPal or Paddle) — we never see your card number. From the provider we receive the order number, amount, time of payment and the country or region you paid from. When you pay with "Card / Apple Pay / Google Pay", Paddle is the seller of record for that order and collects your email address, country or region and payment details to take the payment, work out tax, issue the receipt and prevent fraud, under Paddle's privacy policy (paddle.com/legal/privacy).
  • For billing, preventing abuse, content-safety review and improving the product.
  • We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your content to train models.

Storage and deletion

  • Your account information and what you create are stored on Alibaba Cloud servers in the Singapore region; finished videos are kept in Alibaba Cloud object storage in the Singapore region.
  • You can delete any project at any time. Under "Account → Delete account" you can delete your account and all of its projects. Orders and credit records are kept as required by financial regulations (with identifying information removed).
  • Videos taken down for breaking our rules are kept as a record of the content-safety action (never shown to anyone) for 6 months from the takedown, then deleted; deleting your account does not change this.
  • Accounts of our staff (including former staff) are deleted by an administrator: personal details and videos are deleted under the rules above, but records of actions they took in our back office while employed (including their email at the time), and irreversible digests of their email / phone number used to recognise former staff, are kept for auditing and fraud prevention.

Children

  • A child's recordings and the questions a child asks are children's personal information. Kid mode can only be switched on after a parent or guardian has separately read and agreed to the Children's Privacy Notice; we record which version was agreed to and when.
  • Recordings are only used for transcription and are deleted straight afterwards. We do not collect a child's name, photo, age, school or other identifying information. Parents and guardians can manage the rules in "Kid settings" and delete their child's videos at any time.

Beta / teacher applications on our website

  • When you apply on our website, we collect the contact you leave (phone number, WeChat ID or email; on the English pages also a WhatsApp number or LINE ID), the name you'd like us to use, your child's age group, your city and how you heard about us (teacher applications also ask for school, grade level and subject). We use these only to contact you, in the way you chose, about a beta invitation or to verify that you are a teacher, not for marketing messages. If you choose WhatsApp or LINE, our chat with you goes through the service of WhatsApp (Meta) or LINE (LY Corporation), and their own privacy policies apply.
  • We do not ask for a child's name, photo or other identifying information in applications. Applications are deleted automatically 180 days after they are submitted; you can also ask us to delete yours sooner at any time.
  • Our website sets no cookies (except on the account-deletion page when you sign in, which sets the same sign-in cookie as the web version) and uses no third-party analytics. To see how well each channel works, we record which pages are visited and where visitors came from, telling visitors apart with a digest that is valid for one day and cannot be reversed the next — we do not store IP addresses themselves. Your browser remembers locally which channel you came from (for 7 days, in the browser's local storage; nothing else is uploaded), and this channel is recorded if you then sign up on the web version.
